We will go to meet him in a couple of hours. Right now, everyone is resting. It's been an exhausting week.
We arrived in Chongqing yesterday after a mostly uneventful departure from Beijing. There is no question about why I've heard Chongqing referred to as a Chinese furnace. It's different than the hot we get in Colorado. The sky is white / gray all the time - we're not sure if it's fog or pollution, but whatever it is, it's stiffling to us. The families from Georgia are holding up just fine in the heat, so it must be similar to the South.
This is a huge city - 30 million people. The hotel is right in the middle what seems to be a large shopping / business / gathering place. There are people everywhere, and we must look pretty unusual to them because they stare at us. Some of them will walk up to us and just stand there and look. I've been a little nervous about Jack, because sometimes they want to touch him. It doesn't seem dangerous, just uncomfortable. This is different than Beijing - we stood out there, but not as much as here.
We just finished our lunch of fried rice and some kind of dumpling soup. We tried to order two bowls of rice and one soup, but received two large bowls of soup and one fried rice. We could have gotten by with one and one. We brought it back up to our room and ate, even though we really don't have anywhere to eat in the room. It's small, and once we get two cribs in here, we won't have much space to move.
Anne's room adjoins ours, however. Nice for us, but she's probably ready for some peace and quiet.
We completed some paperwork this morning, and saw an updated photo of JT. He doesn't look especially happy in the photo, but none of the babies did. Anita, our rep, showed us how to make a bottle for the baby and described the three types of babies: happy, crying, and serious. I doubt after their trip today that any of them will be happy. I think Joseph will have to travel for about 5 hours to get to us, but I will have to ask Anita to find out for sure. I believe they will travel on the train from Yunyang.
Today has been the most relaxing day yet, and we definitely need to settle things down for Jack. He finally crashed yesterday. I wondered when it would happen. I've never seen him so tired. He fell asleep on the bus from the airport about 1:30 pm, we carried him through the hotel to the room (still sleeping) and John woke him up around 5:30 pm. Unheard of for Jack. He's taking a nap right now, for which I'm thankful. Even in his tired state, he is doing very well. This is a tough trip for him, and he tells us he wants to go home. We all want to go home, I think. He just gets to say it.
I'll post some pictures of the hotel and the area. And soon we will introduce you to Joseph Tai. Stay tuned!
